“Mathematics and Physics are the languages that explain the whole universe.”
– O. Farinas
Hi! My name is Orlan Farinas, professional tutor and mentor for over 17 years. I value my family and education. I was a student athlete at Delano High School (DHS). I was voted Most Likely to Succeed and received the Morris Most Outstanding Senior Athlete in Track & Field. In 1982, I graduated from DHS with honors with a 3.91 GPA, and I earned a partial scholarship at UCLA.
I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from UCLA in 1987. I currently work for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as NAS Plan & Programs Manager, Electrical Engineer. I have been working for the federal government for over 33 years, with vast engineering and management experience. In 1997, I graduated from the Executive Potential Program, a 2-year government management Masters degree program. I am a 1999 Dale Carnegie Leadership graduate. For my dedicated community service, I received the Los Angeles Skyline Lions Club 2020 Citizen of the Year Award.
In addition to being a freelance tutor for nearly two decades, I tutored at various other places. While attending UCLA, I tutored Pre-calculus, Calculus, and Linear Algebra for three
years. In addition, I volunteered to tutor Calculus 1 and 2, as well as Statistics at the
Antelope Valley College (AVC) for a year and a half. Throughout my career, I helped many
FAA technicians pass their math and basic electronics courses. Furthermore, as part of the
“No Student Left Behind” program, I worked part-time for WeCan Foundation, a non-profit
organization, tutoring elementary and high school students from Basic Math to Calculus,
Language Arts, and CAHSEE preparation. Helping under-privileged students accomplish
their academic goals is heart-warming and rewarding. I’ve always enjoyed math, and I found
my passion to educate through these various experiences.
I come from a clan of professionals: engineers, businessmen, chefs, managers, nurses,
dentists, optometrist, and physical therapists. Growing up in a small town in the San
Joaquin Valley taught us hard work, perseverance, and determination – and these are
exactly the values I try to instill in my own child and the students I tutor.

I care deeply about all my students’ success. My Learning Center gives them valuable tools to enhance their learning. As a result, I help many students develop a passion and love for math!
