Hi! My name is Orland Farinas. I am a professional tutor and mentor for over 17 years. Please allow me to tell you a bit about myself.
I value my family and education. I was a student-athlete at Delano High School (DHS), voted Most Likely to Succeed. In 1982, I graduated from DHS with honors with a 3.91 GPA, and I earned a partial scholarship at UCLA.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from UCLA in 1987. I currently work for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as NAS Plan & Programs Manager, Electrical Engineer. I have been working for the federal government for over 33 years, with vast engineering and management experience. In 1997, I graduated from the Executive Potential Program, a 2-year government Masters program in management. I am a 1999 Dale Carnegie Leadership graduate. For my dedicated community service, I received the Los Angeles Skyline Lions Club 2020 Citizen of the Year Award.
In addition to being a freelance tutor for over 17 years, I tutored at various other places. While I attended UCLA, I tutored Pre-calculus, Calculus, and Linear Algebra for three years. In addition, I volunteered to tutor Single-variable Calculus and Multi-variable Calculus, as well as Statistics at the Antelope Valley College (AVC) for a year and a half. Throughout my career, I helped many FAA technicians pass their math and basic electronics courses.
Furthermore, as part of the “No Student Left Behind” program, I worked part-time for a non-profit organization, tutoring elementary and high school students in Arithmetic, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, Geometry, Pre-calculus, Calculus, Language Arts, and CAHSEE preparation. Helping under-privileged students accomplish their academic goals is heart-warming and rewarding. I’ve always enjoyed math, and I found my passion to teach through these various experiences.
I come from a clan of professionals: engineers, businessmen, chefs, managers, nurses, dentists, optometrist, and physical therapists. Growing up in a small town in the San Joaquin Valley taught us hard work, perseverance, and determination …. and these are exactly the values I try to instill in my own child and the students I tutor.

My private tutoring business grew from my deep desire to give back. I was fortunate to have awesome teachers and mentors who gave me solid educational foundation for success. It is my way of paying forward, sharing my knowledge, and creating better students. I instill confidence in my students and prepare them for success.
I care deeply about all my students’ success. My Learning Center gives them valuable tools to enhance their learning. As a result, I help many students develop a passion and love for math!
